Fixing the dragon

As you have read in my last journal posting the GreenMobile (Toyota Celica’s are commonly referred to as dragon’s as the emblem is actually of a dragon boat) is alive! But barely, cos it always refuses to start after shutting down the engine. As the spark plug was hot n ‘wet’. It was a common sight of me and my car at a car park swapping out the spark plugs.

So after it got more and more frustrating I brought the car to my friend’s workshop. To help me find out what was the problem.

Green mobile update

Updated on Tuesday, September 15, 2009 at 6:40PM by Registered CommenterGerald

Okay, its been 3 months since I have driven the car. Well 3 months since I took off the rear rims for D.I.Y. refurbishment. About a month ago found out that the battery died. So I took it out and passed to the mechanic to charge it. There after I have been busy. So I only manage to drop by the mechanic’s place this afternoon. Took the battery and plunk it into the Greenmobile.

It cranked! well for a few times then decided to fizzle out. Drats! out of juice again.

So I took out the Blackmobile’s battery and plunk it into the Greenmobile. It cranked a lot of times with a lot of power. Hmm.. still not turning over. And I realize something. I popped the boot, knocked on the gas tank. Shoot! It ran out of gas! &^$W%$!!!

The Blackmobile was running with out battery because I was lazy to set the radio all over again. So I plunk the dead/weak battery into it. To charge it for a few minutes. Then called my dad to help me purchase a few liters of petrol from the petrol station on his way back.

When my dad came back he only bring back 3 liter of petrol in a 4 liter bottle. Ugh. Better than nothing I guess. Poured in the petrol, connected the batteries again. Got into the hot seat, pumped the accelerator about 10 times quickly. And turned the key. crank crank crank….. and it turned! Hahaaa! its alive.. with strange wheez and squeaks… let in run a few mins and then swapped the batteries back. When doing so I noticed the alternator on the Greenmobile was snapping and stopping and going. Jeez.

new ride

On 26th November 2008 I recieved a msg from my Dad. He said his friend has found the car that I was looking for and was in quite decent condition. And the owner would only be back home around 10pm. So if we wanted to view the ride, it would have to be after 10pm.

So I stay home (not that I was going to go out or anything cos I was still kinda sick after Miri [3 week and counting]), rested and wacthed some movies. I was not really keen to view the car at night. And I was not expecting much of it. By 10pm drove to meet the guy at a coffeeshop. Then off we went trailing behind his Kancil to an unknown destination in the middle of the night.

The drive was about 25mins. And after that we headed off the main road into small kampung road. And drove another 6-8 mins.

Then we stopped and walked for another 4-5 mins. As it was kind of drizzling and the road was muddy and slippery. There were no lights along the way as the house was a kampung house.

Anyways after much hassle we reached the car and I inspeted it the best I could in the middle of the night in the dark. Had to use the light from the hand phones to see anything. But I can tell over all the car was still quite solid. And the mechanic who introduced the car told use that the under carriage was still in good condition.
